A Question:

What's the deal with the phrase "gone south" or "going south" or "headed south"? I know people use this when they mean things are going bad or going to pot. As a person who lives in (or quite near to) the south, I think I take offense to this statement. Does that mean that things in the south are bad? I'm not sure where the phrase came from or why it's used, but I don't think I like it. I turned to my favorite source of information...the urban dictionary, but it didn't have a lot to say on the matter. Except that it did confirm it is a statement that means something is going badly...oh, and in "gangsta lingo" also refers to someone's "nether regions", but we won't go there. What's your opinion? If you're from the south, do you find this phrase offensive? Or is it just about our geographic location rather than the quality of our area?

Hope everyone had a terrific Tuesday☺

As for your question, I like to pretend that "going South" means going to Mexico..not Oklahoma. It helps me sleep better at night! =)
I like the ganster lingo talk, yo!

Thanks for the tag!! I might try to post it tonight!

I enjoyed reading your list.

The term "down south" really doesn't bother me all that bad. What offends me is when people think that everyone from the south are a bunch of ignorant hillbillies. Now that lights a fire under my skin!

Isn't that a great giveaway Katy is having!

Thanks for the Tag...I'm going to do it, now? lol! I have a question...why "Cute as a button!"? What exactly does that mean? Buttons...are they really cute? I think they are more like a necessity. It should be used like, "Boy, breathing is as necessary as a button!" That works, right?
