JennyKate's Thoughts on Blogging - Part Uno

Hi.  My name is JennyKate and I have some thoughts on blogging.

Wrote a song about it.  Wanna hear it?  Here it goes.

OK, not really, but I have been thinking of some things and I decided to get them down on the blog for posterity sake.

The first thing I'd like to talk about is originality.  It has come to my attention this week that Bloggers become very offended when they know/think/suspect that someone has stolen an original idea and I totes understand that.  I do.  Really.

The world of blogging is a funny place.  There are so many flippin' bloggers out there in the blogosphere.  It's ridiculous really.

I found this quote on The Blog Herald, "I don’t think the blogosphere is quite mature yet. Technorati currently states it is tracking over 112.8 million blogs, a number which obviously does not include all the 72.82 million Chinese blogs as counted by The China Internet Network Information Center. Blog statistics often concern the English language blogosphere but we should not forget about the millions of other blogs that are not always included in estimations." That was dated February 2008.  So, you can imagine how many blogs there are today.

Do you know how hard it is to be legitimately "original" when there are that many people doing the exact same thing you're doing.  I would say it's nearly impossible.  There is someone somewhere who has probably wrote about this exact thing.  I'm sure of it.

I like to compare the world of blogging to Planet Earth.  We humans, who occupy Planet Earth, often start thinking that we're the only living breathing creatures out there.  We tend to think that there can not be anybody like us...no where, no how.  Srsly?  This is a big freakin' place.  There are millions of planets, solar systems, galaxies, and universes.  To think that we're the only living breathing creatures is being close-minded...and pretty egocentric.

Same goes for blogging.  I think a lot of us get this mentality that we're a BIG fish in a little sea, when really it's just the opposite.  We're all (even you...you Celebrity Blogger) just little fish in a BIG FREAKIN OCEAN yo.

There are probably thousands of people who have had the same idea as you.

I always remind myself that there is someone who has said it better, wrote it more eloquently, been funnier, had more wit, and said it with more style than me.

We just have to be the best us we can be...and try not to step on anyone's toes while we're doing it.

But let me tell you, it's getting crowded up in here.

You are SO right!
I was amazed when I started blogging and read so many others that were LIKE ME.
:)
So. Who got their idea stolen? lol

it really does blow your mind all the blogness that's out there. I like to think of myself as a celebrity and all my followers are papparazzi / stalkers. It's fun living in my crazy.

Right on target. I have had things cross my mind to write about then saw the same subject on someone else's blog. I knew people would think I was copying so I didn't do the post. I don't think it really matter because I don't have the same or as many followers as others do, but I love the ones who do follow me. Don't you love this Oklahoma weather?

I also think intent has to be considered. If I share something that I saw somewhere, I do my best to link back, but sometimes I just forget where I saw it, not trying to rip anybody off, ya know? Also, totally singing En Vogue at my desk now...thanks...

I can totally understand that there are a lot of bloggers like me with similar ideas. Other bloggers often give me inspiration, but I make sure to give them credit. However, some of my own followers have tried to start up their own versions of The Talk of Tinseltown. It bugs me. Don't be stealin my shit, yo. BOO-YAH! But you're totally right... many people are going to have the same idea. It happens. It's not stealing.

Nicely put!! I agree. There are sooo many bloggers and If I'm writing something then I figure somebody has written the same thing from their perspective. I know I'm a little fish but glad to in the same water. :)

This was SO good. I get sort of sick with people that are a little too big for their britches! GET OVER YOURSELF : )
That is the comment I want to leave but of course I can't : ) So I just say something nice and keep it moving : ) I try not to be negative on blogs but I do try to be truthful! Sometimes I disagree!

I think it is nice that whatever I have said has been said before!

Love this post Jenny Kate!

I was just emailing with someone and asked them if I could use their idea as a platform for my own post. (Of course giving her credit in the post.)

Some of my best 'original' ideas are triggered by all of you fabulous writers!

You go JennyKate! I know what you mean and can see both sides -for instance I had an idea for a title/name a few years before I even started a blog -I just had a name idea not knowing what I would use it for -I eventually started my blog but, couldn't get -Mommy Mayhem or Mom Mayhem because they were taken -I then used THE Mom Mayhem -I didn't even know the names were taken before then -1 of the blogs seemed to be inactive -I thought I was pretty original and was not trying to copy or anything-So, there you have it. I also agree it's nice to give recognition where it's due -For instance on MckLinky Mondays and other memes it's good to point out where the meme -etc. is from :)

I totally know I am an itty bitty minnow in the great big ocean. It makes me laugh when I read about people getting all worked up because someone said or did something that they thought was thier original idea. I mean come on it is like saying I invented the work The & no one else can use it. Kinda funny when you think about it that way LOL.

wait. was it me?

people write me hate mail for stealing their ideas.

seriously.

i has happened.

people are mean.

everyone assumes the worst in others and really it is so super sad to me.

i am ALL about supporting other bloggers and trying to spread a little joy...i wish there were less haters in the blogsphere.

can't we all just get along?

So many people look at blogging as competition where they are trying to be heard among millions of other voices. I know lots of people have success with that but it breeds a lot of jealous behavior.
I see it as more of conversation that I'm participating in with others. I use other people's ideas (Gasp!!) but I always give them credit and I try and put my own spin and identity on it.

Wow...I didn't realize this went on in the blogging world. I mainly do it for on line journaling. Other people reading it is sort of a perk. And I really enjoy meeting new people.
