Things I've Learned Whilst Building On And Moving Over

As we've went through the process of finishing up the add-on and moving our junk things over, I've learned some things.
  • We never need to buy a DS stylus again.  We officially have 17 of them...big, little, medium sized.  I counted.
  • I start off big and bad, "We're getting rid of ALL "baby" toys/puzzles/books/etc."  Then, I get all sappy and sentimental.
  • I'm still a sucker for wooden puzzles.  Apparently, I was addicted to buying them when Isaiah was little.  Now, I can't bare to part with them...even if I'm the only one who ever plays with them again.
  • 2 1/2 people and one big fat black lab living in 1176 square feet for 8 years acquire LOTS of junk.  You think it would be the opposite.  In my defense, I'm a purger...usually.  Except when it comes to wooden puzzles and baby stuff...oh, and books...I can't stand to part with books.
  • If I have one Twilight/Rob Pattinson related magazine, I have 200.  No lie.
  • I don't know how we fit this much junk stuff in that small of a space.  Perhaps we should be in the Guinness Book of World Records or something.
  • Going from 6 feet of cabinet space to 36 feet of cabinet space in my kitchen alone is LIFE CHANGING.
  • Going from my "laundry room" being in my kitchen to having my very own LAUNDRY ROOM is like winning the lottery.  It's amazing.
Here's a few pics...

Keep in mind that it's not finished.  I still have to decorate, rearrange, organize and such; but it's progress!  We're still working on the old part of the house, more pics of that soon.

Hope you're all having a great week so far!! *muah*

Happy List - 02.26

Photobucket

This week, the things that make me most happy are house related.

We are finally to a stage of the building process that I can help with.  I'm now just DAYS away from getting to move our things over, organizing, starting to decorate, buying a few new pieces of furniture...#icannotwait

It makes me happy. Decorating and organizing make me happy.

Last Thursday, Michael and my uncle started pouring our concrete counter tops.  LOVE them.

They make me happy.  Is that silly?

Also, you see this little cardinal

See him?

Well, I love birds...especially red birds.  I would love nothing more than to get a beautiful, vivid shot of this lovely cardinal that lives in the tree outside of my Granny's kitchen window...but he will not let me.

I know it's a "he" because HE is being so difficult and stubborn.
The day I get my shot will make me very happy...maybe this weekend?

Lastly, I wish I were having a fancy Oscar party tomorrow night.  I would make everyone wear gold and we would fill out ballots and give out our own Oscars.  It would be great. sigh.  That would make me happy...but I'm not.

However, I am happy that my chances of seeing this guy

<----on the red carpet tomorrow night are looking pret-ty good.

Anyfangirl, hope you all are having a great weekend!

House Update

I've been promising a house update...I even pinkie promised yesterday, and you can NOT break a pinkie promise.

I think the last house update I posted was in August!

Makes you say "what the heck, JK?"

So, here's a house update!
The picture above is me standing in the kitchen looking back into the living room/dining room area.  The short "walls" are where my cabinets are going to go.

We have all of the electric in and the heat and air has been installed.
The inspector came today and signed off on everything!  WOOT!
The plumbing is in and we already have our bathtub and faucets in the bathroom.
This is looking into Isaiah's room.  He's so excited about it.  Excuse the mess.  We've been using it to store some thing that had to come out of the attic in the old part of the house.

Let me tell you, this house addition stuff is hard work and it's messy.  There are days when I feel like pulling my hair out because of the dust and dirt...and the fact that NOTHING has a place right now.  However, I try to focus on the good stuff.  I know it will be all worth it in the end and the progress is really picking up...that excites me!

For instance, today we got a sidewalk and front porch poured.

I like it!  It's a mess, but it makes me happy.

I promise to update more often.  Say a prayer and cross some fingers...and toes...that we can at least be partially in by Christmas.  That's my Christmas wish!

Hope you all are having a terrific Tuesday!♥

House Update

House Update time!
The most exciting thing happened this week...

We got windows!
Please excuse the jungle in our front yard...and I'm glad this isn't a close up, because my flower bed looks HIDEOUS!

Who knew that getting windows and picking out faucets...

and shower heads...

and toilets...

would be so exciting?!

We also picked out the bathtub and sinks for the bathroom and kitchen.
This is the fun part!
We're still a long way from having all of that stuff installed and in working order, but we're one step closer!

Michael and my dad are going to start on the electric in the next day or so...then insulation and sheet rock...THEN the painting, installing of appliances/cabinets, and flooring can begin!  I can't wait!

I'll try to remember to snap some pics of the inside this weekend, so you guys can see how it's shaping up.

RHOK - McLinky Monday

The Ladies over at The RHOK are discussing what room of your house you are most at home in and what that says about you!

Seemed like an easy enough topic for a Monday, so I'm joining in!  I love the ladies at The RHOK!  Even if you're not a "real housewife of Oklahoma", you should still check out the blog!  Just click on "The RHOK" above or the button below.

After completing the quiz, I discovered that I am...

You Are Most at Home in the Living Room

Which means...

You're the type of person who always feels relaxed at home. In many ways, it's where you're at your best.
You love to chill out at home. You are not the biggest homebody in the world, but you appreciate the time you spend there.

There's nothing like having a few friends over to watch a movie or just talk in your living room.
You are proud of the home you've created, and you love to share it with others.

I tried finding a pic of my living room, but apparently I don't have one saved to my computer!  What?!  I'm like the picture queen.  Note to self: take a pic of the living room...when it's clean!
Eventually, my living room will be right here!

Speaking of home...my husband told me yesterday that he thought I forgot where I lived.  LOL.  Yeah, goal for the week...be at home more!
I'm already failing miserably because I'm going out this evening with the ladies from The RHOK and a friend from high school whom I haven't seen (in person) in years!  So excited!
I'll start on that goal tomorrow...or Thursday.

House Update!

I promised a house update, so here it is!

There is still TONS of work left to be done, but there has been great progress made over the last couple of weeks...

We have WALLS! YAY!

And a ceiling...

and a little bit of siding...

and a ROOF!  Double YAY!!

Hopefully the progress will start on the inside soon!  Construction = a huge mess.  I'm trying to not get too worked up about it, but it feels like I'm never going to have clean floors again...and cleaning the house just seems to be futile...and don't get me started on the yard.  It's so worth it, though.  I can not wait to have more space...and closets, LOTS of closets!

Tomorrow I am going to have a Consumed By Fire and Darrah O'Hagan CD giveaway!!  Don't miss it!!

Hope you guys are having a great week!♥

House Update

As promised, here's a little house add-on update:

Last week, after taking down the fence and cleaning out and moving two storage sheds, we were finally ready for the footing to be dug and poured...
During the digging process, our DSL and phone line was cut, but thankfully they are fixed now!  Whew.  Can't go without the DSL! (I was having blogging/facebooking withdraws)
The next phase is setting the forms for the foundation.  *fingers crossed* Hopefully that will happen in the next week or so.  We have a nasty looking forecast this week here in NE Oklahoma, lots of rain and severe storms predicted...so, we'll see how it goes.  I think it will finally seem real to me when there are walls up!

How was every one's Mother's Day?  Mine was fantastic!  Isaiah got me a New Moon lunchbox, a new Edward and Bella bookmark, a Twilight bracelet, and a new necklace!  Does he know his momma or what?! I hope you all had a wonderful day!

Please Excuse The Mess

We're starting the long awaited building process at our house today!  We've been preparing for the last month (longer actually) by getting our floor plans drawn up, a building permit secured, and taking down fencing and storage sheds.

I have a piece of advice.  Do not store clothing or shoes...you will NOT retrieve it and when/if you do, it WILL be out of style.  Also, NEVER store anything in a cardboard box...ever.  I would also recommend clear storage containers.  Trust me.  I know what I'm talking about.

We've lived in our house for almost 8 years  (a very small house - 1100 sq ft) and we built it with the intention of adding on 2 years after we moved in.  Don't ask us what we were thinking...we honestly don't know.  We had these lofty dreams of building debt free.  We were young, childless, and carefree.  Just about the time we were thinking about Phase 2 of our house building, Phase 2 of our lives started...parenthood.  So, phase 2 has been on hold for about 6 years.

Our footing is being dug today.  That means I'll be internet-less for a few days while they relocate all of our telephone lines.  Also, my house is a mess due to all the work going on outside, and I can only see it getting worse before it gets better.  So, if I'm not here as much, that will be why.  I'll try to post pictures as we go along.  We're planning on doing a lot of the finish work ourselves, so I'm sure that will lead to some good blog fodder.  I have a feeling this is going to be a long process.  I may need talked down from the ledge from time to time.  Just remind me that it will all be worth it in the end!

Hope you guys have a wonderful Wednesday!
