Crack in a cup.  I love it.  It immediately boosts my mood.

My Chucks.  I love 'em.

 After the icy, snowy week we've had, this sunshine is a welcome sight.
 Sometimes, when we're in the middle of winter, daydreaming of summer days is what makes me happy...
 and lazy Saturday afternoons...even if it is butt cold.
 GenX Radio always makes me happy.  I'm always down for some Shoop by Salt N Peppa or a little Coolio.  Takes me back to 1990something.

A Thankful Heart

I am so thankful for God.
I am so thankful for Michael.
I am so thankful for Isaiah.
I am so thankful for my mom and dad.
I am so thankful for my granny.
I am so thankful for the time I was able to spend with my grandpa before he passed away. 
I am thankful that he lives on in our hearts and we will meet again. 
I am thankful for the legacy he left behind.
I am thankful for my aunts, uncles, and cousins.
I am thankful for all of my wonderful friends (that includes you).
I am thankful for my church and church family.
I am thankful for my freedom and the men and women who fight to keep it.
I am thankful for the simple things in life that make me happy.
I am thankful for my home.
I am thankful for family traditions.
I am thankful for all of the delicious food we are eating today!

  5. Gain laundry soap
  6. a clean bathroom
  7. white twinkle lights
  8. Isaiah's jokes
  9. a good chat on the phone...seems as though texting has taken over our lives and it's nice to reconnect over the phone every once in a while.
  10. my favorite song coming on the radio

Thursday Thankfuls

This week I have been oh-so-thankful for...
  • Michael's new job.
  • REAL fall weather so that I can wear my comfy sweaters, boots and jeans.
  • Pumpkin Spice lattes from Starbucks.  I've been enjoying them while I can!  It's all about the Peppermint Mochas after Thanksgiving.
  • The magical feeling I start to get around this time of year...the HOLIDAYS are upon us!
  • New friends
  • Old friends
  • Bloggy friends
  • New experiences and adventures.
  • Hilarious pictures from the weekend.  I laugh each time I look through them. 


Dear Lord,

Please do not let Kristen come to my blog.  She's never been before, so don't let her start now.  Also, please don't let anyone who knows and/or is related to Kristen read this blog, because they would tell on me.  If she does happen to read this, please help her to understand that it was for entertainment purposes only.  Amen.

McLinky Monday - What Am I Thankful For

Today, on The RHOK, Mrs. Hart wants to know what we're thankful for.  I have addressed this topic quite a bit in the last couple of weeks.  I've been linking up occasionally when I can to Seriously, Shawn.  Sorry, I haven't linked up more Shawn!  I was going to use a previous post.  It was such a long weekend and I'm uber tired, but I started thinking that I have so much to be thankful for and surely I can come up with at least ONE MORE POST.  Of course, I am always thankful for my Trifecta...God, Family, and Friends.  So, here's my list of things I'm thankful for this morning...totes off-the-cuff:

I'm thankful for the AH-mazing weekend I just experienced.
I'm thankful for my AH-mazing husband who lets me do my "thang", even when he doesn't get it.

I'm thankful for the time I got to spend with my cousin Kristen.

I'm thankful for the opportunity to "pick-up" a few toiletry items whilst away...and by "pick-up" I mean steal.  I committed a crime for toiletries, people.  I wonder if the cleaning lady knew that it was us who stole 8 bottles of lotion and 4 bottles of shampoo off of her cart.  I'm sure she had to have noticed that they were missing and I'm pretty sure that is what she was telling the guy who was with her when we passed her on the way to the elevator.  I'm not fluent in Spanish, so I'm just taking a guess here, but I think she was saying "That's them.  Those are the girls who stole all of the lotion off of my cart."  I hope I don't get banned from the Westin.  I do love to stay there.

I'm thankful for the nice man at the desk who informed me that you can purchase the Westin toiletries on-line...listed under their "Heavenly Products".  (Funny that they are named "heavenly", because I'm pretty sure my actions were NOT "heavenly".)  Good to know.  I will not need to commit grand theft any longer.  I'll be able to acquire my toiletries in an honest fashion.

I'm thankful for my ability to not get star-struck.  While having dinner with Peter Facinelli, he spent 5 or 10 minutes at our table and I was able to just chat with him like we were old friends...and I remembered my own name.  I did write it on my hand, just in case.

I'm thankful for rest.

Hopefully I'll get to catch up on some soon.  I think Kristen and I squeezed in about 6 hours for the entire weekend.

Friend Makin' Monday & A Thankful Heart...all wrapped into one!

I NEVER do this.  EVER.  I'm posting twice today.  This just doesn't happen on Jenny Kate's Spot.  So, mark this day down.  I already linked up to McLinky Monday over at The RHOK with my favorite Thanksgiving food and recipe. Then, I read the message from Becca on Facebook saying that she was hosting FMMs and wanted everyone to post and stop by and link up...I always try to help out my bloggy friends when I can.  Besides, I love FMMs and miss them when I don't participate.  It's how I've met some incredible blogging friends!  I tried to think of a creative way to combine McLinky Monday, FMM, AND 25 Days of Thankful (with Shawn)...but I just couldn't do it.

Becca asked us to list what we are specifically thankful for in 2010...our Top 10 of 2010, which falls right into Shawn's 25 Days of Thankful!

Here's my Top 10 of 2010...

One - My family.  I love them so much.  Anytime I have a bad day or things are going rough, I remember that I have them to come home to and all is right with the world.

Two - Fun times.  I love to have fun.  Life is too short to be boring.  So, I'm thankful for all of the fun I've had in 2010.  

Three - House Addition. I'll post an update this week!  Pinkie promise.

Four - Twilight.  I know this sounds crazy and a little far-fetched for some of you, but it has brought a lot of great things/people/experiences into my life.

Five - My extended family.  I'm the oldest of 15 grand kids and I am so close to my cousins, aunts, and uncles.  I don't know what I would do without them.


Six - My friends.  I love them so much.  They mean the world to me.  They talk me down from "ledges", tell me it's OK to have chocolate when the world has me down, support my addictions, and keep me sane.  

Seven - Reading!  I love my books and I'm especially thankful for the ones that change my life, make me think, and give me a different perspective.

Eight - Blogging.  What would I do without all of my friends who live in my computer?!

Nine - Coffee. You knew this would have to make the list, right? I've gotta have my Starbucks!

Ten - My church.  I'm over the children's department at church and I love it...love me kiddos and my church family.

Friday Confessions & A Thankful Heart -- Day 2

First things first, something I'm thankful for.

Yesterday, in my comments, Shawn reminded me just how good I've got it here where I work.  Today, I am thankful for my great job.  I really do have it good.  I have a kitchen I can "whip up" something in anytime I want.  A boss who allows me to bring Isaiah to work with me any time I need or want to, like today.  He's been sick the past couple of days.  He's on the mend, but not well enough to go back to school.  So, he's spending the day with me.  
I'm oh-so-thankful.
(This is the point in my blog post where I would LOVE to be able to insert Shawn's adorable link/picture to her 25 Days of Thankful, but Blogger is being a butthead and will NOT let me.  I'm *this close* to throwing my monitor out of the window.  I'm counting to 10...backwards...10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.  OK, better.  So, you should totes go over to Shawn's blog and read more thankfuls and link up with your own!)




I also thought I would squeeze in a few Friday Confessions, since I missed out on posting them last Friday.  Speaking of last Friday, what a day...what a week last week was.  Amongst all my CRAZY BUSYness, I managed to get a flat tire on Thursday, almost run out of gas, AND lock my keys in my car the morning of the 1st grade Field Trip.  I was like the Bad News Bears...team of 1.


Here's a few more confessions, courtesy of my iPhone:

    I eat LOTS of croutons.  I love them.  They're my favorite snack. Good to the last crumb.

    When it comes to all things Twilight, I can't help myself.  I not only buy it, I buy it in mass quantities.  

    I voted, so did Edward.  Did you?!

    I did not mean for this to turn into a "oh-look-at-what-a-Twi-nerd-I-am" post, but seems as though we're going there.  So, while we're making a stop in Twitardia, I might as well mention that next week I'll be in Dallas at the Twilight Convention.  WHUT?! WHUT?!

    A Thankful Heart -- Day 1

    "No matter what happens, always be thankful..." (1 Th. 5:18)

    Over the next month, as often as possible, I'm going to be posting things I'm thankful for.  

    I'm thankful for so many things.  I feel very blessed.  

    Sometimes my "thankfuls" might be "profound" and other times they may be silly or things that are only important to me.

    Today, I'm thankful for the ability to go into the kitchen and just "whip something up", as my Granny would say.  

    I have her to thank for this ability.  


    For lunch today, I went into our kitchen here at the office and made myself some chicken and dumplings...my Granny's easy recipe.  

    After a conversation with a co-worker, it dawned on me that not everyone can just go into the kitchen and make something.  My ability to cook definitely comes from my Granny.  She is a wonderful cook.  I hope that one day I am even half as good as she is.

    So, a big shout-out to my Granny (even though she doesn't read my blog...she doesn't even know what blogging is) for letting me hang out in her kitchen and watch her every move...and ask a million questions.

    Thank you, Granny!  I LOVE you!

    101010 - Perfect 10

    Today is October 10, 2010...10/10/10.  Last week, Shawn from Seriously wrote on her blog that this would be the last time this date sequence would occur for a hundred years.  She suggested that we commemorate this event by writing a post about 10 things we're grateful for, 10 things we're glad we've done and finish with 10 things we want to do within the next 10 years. 

    Sounds fun to me! :)

    Who has two thumbs and loves to have fun??  THIS GIRL!!!

    10 things I am grateful for are...
    1. My faith
    2. My family
    3. My friends
    4. My freedom and the people who give their lives to keep it.
    5. My free drink card from Starbucks.  It's nice to know that this isn't a one sided relationship.  They care.  They really care.  *tear*
    6. My favorite miniature sized doll being returned to me.  Pocket Edward was missing, but he's back home now.  This story requires it's own blog post.
    7. frequent texts/conversations with Trisha.  She keeps me sane and she totally gets me.  A couple of years ago, I prayed for a friend that I could totally relate to...same interests, same likes, same concerns...working mom...a person I could talk to about EVERYTHING.  God brought me Trisha.

    9. fresh starts
    10. My (I'm all outta words that start with 'F') job and the FRINGE benefits I have there...like getting to bring Isaiah to work with me, being able to have my Twilight sanctuary at work...you know the normal things you look for in a good job.

    Thursday Thankfuls


    Hey, guys.  It's me.  Jenny Kate.  Remember me?  I have been in the world's worst blogging slump.  You know that movie "How Stella Got Her Groove Back"?  Well, I need to be Angela Bassett...I so gotta get my groove back.  

    One of the best ways I know to get my "groove" back is it write down things I'm thankful for and get a fresh perspective.

    It's been a while since I've done a Thursday Thankfuls, so I thought I would take inventory and be grateful.

    Counting your blessings is good for the soul.

    I'm thankful for family time.
    I'm thankful for summer days and more time to spend with my sugar bear.
    I'm thankful for exciting events that give me something to look forward to!
    (19 days!!  I'll be sharing my party planning soon!)
    I'm thankful for Mocha Light Frappucinos from Starbucks! 150 calories for a grande!  16 oz of pure heaven!
    I'm thankful for adventures.
    I'm thankful for the chance to raise money for a worthy cause like Relay For Life.  (P.S.  There is always a donate button at the bottom of my blog.)
    This is a little hint to the theme of our campsite for Relay For Life 2010!  It's tomorrow!  Our team raised $5201.50!  I'll have pics to share next week!

    Thanksgiving Thankfuls!!

    Today on this Thanksgiving Day, I am oh so thankful for all the blessings in my life. The most obvious ones are

    I'm sure I'm missing something. I'm pretty much thankful for everything around me...it's hard to list everything...well, I guess I could just say I'm thankful for EVERYTHING! That's what Isaiah put on our Blessings Tree in our Sunday School room...if a 5 year old can do that, then so can I. I'm thankful for EVERYTHING! How about you? What are you thankful for?

    Thursday Thankfuls


    I can't believe that it is already November and the holidays are upon us! I don't know where this year has gone...time goes by so fast these days. I wish there was a pause button. I do love this time of year though and I love having the opportunity at Thanksgiving to really reflect and think about things I'm thankful for. I was telling Isaiah the other morning that it's almost time for Thanksgiving and he says "what's Thanksgiving?" I told him that "it is a time of year that we count our blessings and remember the things we're thankful for". He said that he was thankful for the "beautiful fall leaves", and "his family", and "the Upside Down Show", and "sausage and cheese breakfast sandwiches"...and then he just went off into silly talk and being thankful for just about everything that was in the car and things we were passing as we were driving to school. I was thinking about it after I dropped him off and it made my heart happy, because we should all be thankful for everything we have...whether it's big or small...we should be thankful. I love that he can see the big picture. I'm trying to see the big picture and be thankful for everything from my family to the granola bar I had for breakfast.
    Today I am thankful for...
    • My Family - each and every one of them (even the ones I get ticked off at)
    • My House - even though it is WAY too small, it's mine and I love it.
    • The ability and resources to help people - even in small ways
    • My Family's health
    • The hot cup of coffee I'm drinking as I type this...and the cute mug that it is in, the one that makes me think of the sweet friend that gave it to me...just one more thing to be thankful for.
    • the beautiful fall leaves on the tree right outside my office window.
    • New Moon (and my PAR-TAY) will be here in 14 days, 13 hours, and 45 minutes...but who's counting?! =)
    • All of YOU! I'm so thankful for blogging. I've met so many wonderful friends. Some of you are now friend IRL and e-mail buddies. I love you guys! Just to think, without this blog, I would have never met any of you!

    Thursday Thankfuls

    I'm thankful for...

    • God. He's so good.
    • this hot cup of coffee I'm drinking, even though it is of the office-break-room-variety. It is serving it's purpose.
    • yesterday...getting to go to the zoo with Isaiah. It was so much fun. Lots of good "rememberies", as Isaiah would say.
    • our weather forecast for tomorrow. Partly sunny with the temps rising into the mid 60's...nice.
    • inside jokes.
    • people who remember that SHOWING you how they feel is much better than just TELLING you how they feel.

    Remember to show someone how you feel today...LOVE is a verb.

    Attitude of Gratitude



    I have been tagged for this particular award several times. Sorry to those who have tagged me and I haven't re-posted. I know the one of the bloggers who recently tagged me was Vivienne at The V Spot. Have you guys read her blog? Oh.My.Gosh. She is so funny. Her blog is an easy read. The way she puts things out there and is so real...it's captivating...and funny...did I mention funny? Rhonda at Down Memory Lane is another one who recently gave me this one as well. She's a new blogger buddy who I am looking forward to getting to know better. I know she always has such nice things to say when she comments and her blog is a joy to read!

    So, I'm supposed to tell how I've come to have an attitude of gratitude. I can't think of one particular event in my life that made me want to be grateful. That's really just how I was raised. Knowing God and knowing that He was in control, has been my anchor my whole life. I've always been grateful for that. I also think being grateful is something that is often passed down. My mom has always been such a good example. She has never taken anything for granted and she has always been willing to give praise where praise was due. I've learned a lot from watching her.

    I have a story I'd like to share. It's a little lengthy, so I'm warning you in advance.

    My life took a drastic turn when I was about 8 years old. My mom remarried for starters. I did not want my mom to get married. I just couldn't understand what was wrong with the way things were. Why did we need a man around? What did he have to offer US? He put a kink in our Saturday shopping trips and weekends spent at a hotel. Our weekends turned into "family time"...movies, dinner out, ice skating...it was horrible! Ok, maybe not horrible, but in the eyes of an 8 year old little girl who loved nothing more than her mom and the time she spent with her...it was the worst. He took up space, he took up time, he took up residence, and he took up the comfy recliner in the living room. Not only did my mom marry some strange guy, despite my many protests (which could be another blog in itself), she also started a long battle with illness.

    In 1985, my mom got married. The next year she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. So, at the ripe age of 27, my mom had a complete hysterectomy. What she thought was the end of being sick, was only the beginning. During the next year or so, she started losing weight due to an inability to keep her food down after eating. She went through tests until there was nothing left to test and every outpatient procedure you can think of. Results of some of the tests showed an abnormality in her esophagus area and also down through her GI tract. She was referred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where they continued to do tests and diagnosed her with colon cancer. Due to the fact that she was so young and had so much life to live. They took every necessary step to make sure that she would beat cancer yet again. Many prayers were prayed and our attention turned to God. He is the author and finisher of our faith. He was the one who had carried us through hard times before. My mom always made a point to focus on the good and make me see that we had things to be grateful for. I remember lots of things from that time in our life, but one thing I don't remember is every forgetting my blessings. My mom would remind me that she was still here, God was not finished with her, and He was still in control. So, that's where I would stand. That was my "happy place". Just a short while later, they removed my mom's colon and did a brand new procedure that rerouted her intestines and reconnected 'things', which meant no colostomy bag...one more thing to be grateful for. Her recovery from this second surgery was long, and the chemo was awful, but eventually she did recover. One more thing to be grateful for.

    By this time, I was about 13 years old. I was past my mom's new husband being a nuisance and I had fully embraced him as my dad. He was a rock. He was someone I knew I could always lean on through good times and bad. Again, one more thing to be grateful for. During all of these procedures, my mom's issue with not being able to keep food down never got better. She had been diagnosed with everything from eating disorders to mental disorders. While the doctors tried to decide what she had and who to send her to next, she was withering away to nothing. By the time they decided what exactly was wrong with her and what they were going to do about it, she weighed 87 pounds. The conclusion they came to was that she had a congenital defect in her esophagus, one that stemmed from her being a twin. Basically, the muscle at the end of her esophagus, the sphincter muscle, was paralyzed. It would not do it's job of opening to allow food to pass through and then closing to keep the food down. Hence, the getting sick after eating and extreme weight loss. Soooo, in 1995, when I was a Junior in high school, my mom had another surgery. They did a thoracic surgery (kinda like open heart surgery) and went in and basically cut the sphincter muscle so that it would stay open and allow food to pass through. That wasn't necessarily the end to my mom's battles, but it was the end to the most of it...and we were grateful.

    She is alive and well today. Something I am VERY grateful for! I know I didn't have to tell you all of this to prove my point, but I just wanted you to see that God has always been in control. Also, when things seem to be at their worst, if we will just remember ALL the things that we have to be grateful for, it allows us to believe things will get better. Going through all of that makes it easy for me to see all the little and big things that I am grateful for.

    So there are a few rules to this award:

    Thursday Thankfuls

    I haven't done a Thursday Thankfuls post in a few weeks, so I am way overdue.

    I read a great quote this week that said, "Gratefulness is the key to a happy life that we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have we will not be happy -- because we will always want to have something else or something more." - Brother David Steindl-Rast

    I, for one, want to be both grateful and happy.

    Here's a few things I'm thankful for:
    • I'm thankful for God and His amazing love for me (and you).
    • I'm thankful for the real meaning of Easter.
    • I'm thankful for my husband. He works hard and doesn't always get appreciated for it. Love you, babe. (He's a lurker on my blog and likes to bring it to my attention that I "hardly EVER talk about him".)
    • I'm thankful for Melissa coming back to the land of blogging! ☺ I missed you!
    • I'm thankful for tomorrow being Friday! April 15th and the days around it are not a fun time in an accounting department. Thank you Lord for bringing us through another tax season. It was a little touch and go there for a while, but we made it!
    • I'm also thankful for my Starbucks Gold Card and for the good people at the Starbucks Gold Lab for feeling generous and bestowing upon me 5 extra dollars which was loaded to my Gold Card for me to use at my earliest convenience...which will be today. (Was that a run-on sentence? If so, I apologize.) I'm sure this show of appreciation has nothing to do with the amount of times I frequent their establishment(s).
    • One last token of gratitude, I am thankful for a couple of good friends who have so graciously agreed to have a Twilight "gathering" with me, which includes, but is not limited to playing the Twilight board game and talking about all things Twilight. I was in desperate need of a Twilight "outlet". I have a couple things to show you...come back tomorrow for some Friday Confessions.
