Well, I would love to get back to those days and I'm trying. Deep down in my heart I'm REALLY trying. I think about you guys all the time and I think about a MILLION things I'd like to blog about...well, OK, maybe not a million, but a lot...like at least 100 or 50.
So, this is my effort to get back to blogging. I'm here. And I'm posting. And maybe you'll comment and maybe I'll visit you and comment...and maybe, just MAYBE I'll get all adventurous and respond to your comment in an email...maybe.
Last week, a couple of my blogger friends who still associate with me, even though I'm not a very good blogger anymore, challenged me to go "unplugged" for 8 hours...EIGHT HOURS. That's eight hours with no iPhone. Eight hours without tweeting, facebooking, emailing, or playing games.
You don't really know how addicted you are to those things until you go without. Let me tell you, I'm addicted...A-D-D-I-C-T-E-D.
"Betty Ford, how can I help you?"
"Uh, yes...I'd like to check myself in."
So, along with Impulsive, Connie and a few other bloggers; I unplugged.
This is what happened whilst I was not plugged in:
Around 3:15 I went into a comatose state. I finally came back to consciousness around 4:01. The feeling of knowing that I was plugged back in was glorious. I can't describe it...it was like being under water and thinking you weren't going to make it back to the top...and you start swimming feverishly...moving your arms and your legs in rapid motion...your life starts to flash before you...you feel your lungs tightening under the pressure from the lack of oxygen...it's really touch and go...and THEN finally, you break the surface of the water and you take a deep cleansing breath and realize you made it. Yeah, it was kinda like that, except a tad less dramatic...maybe.
A note to Impulsive and Connie: I'm not signing up for this again. Next time you guys get a wild hair to go back to 1995 and cut out all social interaction, count me out...unless I can save a starving child in Africa or something equally noble.
Go check out Impulsive's and Connie's posts here: Impulsive Addict and The Young and Relentless
Could you unplug? Have you unplugged and lived to tell about it? Do tell.
I miss you guys like a fat kid on a diet misses cake.
Haha! Love it. And no, I could not do it. At all. I about die when my internet or TV go out... What would I do with myself if I couldn't waste hours at a time on Facebook or Pinterest? I seriously wouldn't make it. Total internet junkie here. Kudos to you!
ReplyDeleteLast summer we stayed in a cabin for a week with no cell service, tv, or even a radio. It was hard. I ended up sneaking down the mountain a few times to check FB. Sad. lol
ReplyDeleteI swear to you I will NOT ask you to do this again for no reason. Next time it will be because we will win money or we get to travel the world..,or what you said. It was torture.
ReplyDeleteGreat notes! You are so funny! I really hope you make this bloging thing a more regular thing. We miss you.
Did you watch all 3 hours of shows last night?
Hop over to my page and give me your best lines. I know you have some!
I can relate a little to this because I woke up this morning and my phone was dead. I thought about calling into work late and going straight to Verizon. I was so frazzled...and it only lasted 20 minutes. Come to find out it must have updated a program and then the program ran all night draining my battery dry. Whew...so I think that's a NO to the unplug thing. Shiver. The bird...totally made me laugh which is why I love you!
ReplyDeleteYou are so freakin funny! SEE I miss this. You're humor makes me so happy!
ReplyDeleteI won't ask you to do this EVER again. Because I probably won't do it again.
I'm addicted and I"m happy!
LOVED the finger! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI did it. I just got super busy cleaning my house. I might have to do that again today. There is camping crap all over. Need to use my time more wisely. lol!
I didn't jump on that band wagon. Maybe I should have.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you survived. I need Betty Ford for freaking FOOD ADDICTION.
I am so glad to see you back : )
I've been kinda a bad blogger lately too - But, I know I couldn't go unplugged for long -I MUST check FB and see what's going on in everyone else's lives ;) On another note -Lol at your "unplugged journal" reminds me very much of how we used to do things -actually write little notes to communicate -Wow totally 90's ;)
ReplyDeleteNope, I can't unplug, nor do I want to, nor can I see why it would be good for a person. I'm glad that you went through it. I can tell that both you and IA are much more rounded, centered, and spiritual people because of the experience.
ReplyDeleteI was a little worried about you. Your handwriting seriously deteriorated during the day as your brain degenerated. In fact at the end your scrawl looks like the Unibomber's handwriting.
He was unplugged, look what happened to him.
I'm glad you quit after 8 hours. For your sanity and public safety I mean.
I'd go crazy without my phone. I'm trying to get back to blogging too. I'm still in a funk.
ReplyDeletewow you did good. i would've caved.
ReplyDeleteNope - no unplugging here!!
ReplyDeleteThis is my short & sweet comment - cause I don't want to get all attached to you and your stinkin blog....cause you'll ditch me again.... I know it.
~Becca
I think I could. Maybe from 10pm to 6am.
ReplyDeleteNot a chance. Let's be honest if I wake up in the middle of the night...I check the phone. Just in case I'm missed something...cause I could have missed something. I mean you NEVER Know what kinda of stuff happens after I go to sleep.
ReplyDeleteI "unplug" every time we go camping--2 to 3 days of no internets. I survive, but it's always fun to check back in.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't do it. Or I just don't want to. Whatever.
ReplyDeleteNow u can brag that u did it. And hopefully u never have to do it again!
XO
I am dying over the finger you drew! So hilarious! I don't know if I could go 8 hrs unplugged unless I was at work and even them, I'm sure I'd sneak! I'm proud of you!
ReplyDeleteugh, I went all summer with no internet! It was HORRIBLE! This is why I have no iPhone as well, I would never get anywhere or get anything done. I would probably wander into the road and get hit by a car with my nose in the phone! HA!
ReplyDeleteI could totally do it, I really could as long as I had a way to still communicate with my girls if they needed me .I would have to do it on a day where I was not leaving the house or have a rule that I could respond to only them. I could do it...I just don't want to!
ReplyDeleteI miss you like my husband misses tall the sex I gave him in 1995!
Please come back at least twice a week. Can you do twice a week? That is me begging! But I'll be happy to give that up if you'll join IA when she visit me in 3 weeks!
Try going camping for an entire week....
ReplyDeleteI win ;)
Hilarious post. I didn't even TRY to go unplugged. No chance.
ReplyDeleteAnd doesn't it break the rules if you're writing stuff you're going to blog while you're unplugged? Just sayin.
Hey darlin'! I misssss you! I'm so proud of you...and no. I couldn't. As far as laptop...I don't have a smartphone, so I'm always unplugged when it's just me and my dumbphone!
ReplyDeleteI'd never make it! You are brave....and you have been missed!
ReplyDeleteNo way Jose'......I would get the text- your child just fell off the bus and broke his arm.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would be able to do it unless people hid my stuff from me. :)
ReplyDeleteYou always make me lol!!
ReplyDeleteI could totally sense your unease by your writing. NEVER EVER do this to yourself again!
